Today was my last day working at the grocery store. I've been there for six years, but since I stepped down from management and became a part-timer last year I've been slowly pulling away from it on an emotional level. Which is maybe a weird thing to say about a job at a grocery store, but my job meant a lot to me. The company - or, more precisely, the leadership at my store - has been very good to me. I learned a lot from my old position in management, and my bosses have supported me personally and professionally every step of the way. Finally being officially out of retail is huge for me, and I'm thrilled, but it's a bittersweet kind of thrill.

Tomorrow morning nickelhusband and I are headed to Boston for a week of doing nothing in particular. He was there earlier this year for a conference, but I've never been before. The plan is to walk around a lot, look at some stuff, and eat at every vegan-friendly restaurant we can find. That's our all-purpose vacation plan, and it's worked perfectly everywhere we've been so far. I'm looking forward to it.

When we get back we'll have one-day guest pass tickets waiting for us to spend Sunday at Lollapalooza, courtesy of our friends who are playing there that afternoon. We're paying them back with dinner at our house. It's a win for us all the way around. They're some of my favorite people.

After that, I'll be starting my internship. The first two weeks are just training - I won't be seeing any clients until early September. But I'm not really thinking about that yet. I'm still processing leaving my job. No use piling on the anxiety just yet.
I'm slowly filling out the podfic meme paraka  started a few days ago, but it may take awhile. I don't anticipate doing much on LJ while we're out of town. I'll check in here and at Twitter, but probably won't be too active.

Have a good week, everybody.

Congrats on the career move! It's always hard to leave a place of employment. I know how that is. I don't blame you for wanting out of retail!

Have fun in Boston. I've never been - I'd definitely like to go someday.

Actually, that helped a lot! We went there for breakfast today, and it was great. Blueberry pancakes, scrambled tofu with tempeh, and home fries. We're planning on going back at least once this week for lunch - the sandwiches looked pretty amazing, too.

Thanks for the recommend! And yeah, Boston is awesome. :D
