First podfic! "Vessel," by nwhepcat
Here goes something.

I recorded my first podfic. I chose "Vessel," by nwhepcat - one of the first Supernatural stories I ever read, and still among my favorites. It's the story of Castiel's vessel, written before "Rapture" aired and we were all introduced to Jimmy Novak. As much as I like Jimmy, I've always preferred this version of his story. It gives his decision a little more weight, a little more context.

Here's the original text for "Vessel"

Here's the link to the mp3

It's 12 minutes long. It was a small enough file that I didn't make it a zip file, but if there's any weirdness with the download, or if you really think I should convert it to a zip file, please let me know. I really hope to make a lot more of these, and I'll take all the advice I can get.

If this works, I'll submit it to jinjurly's archive.

Enjoy!

I wonder if you might tell me what kind of recording system you have set up? Are you on a PC or Mac? Do you have a fancy sound card and microphone?

I'm trying to make my recordings sound better but I'm not quite sure what I need to do for that, lol.

Funny, I was just on your page a second ago.

I'm on a Mac, using Garageband. My husband used to be in a bunch of different bands when we lived in Austin, and still records at home now, so we have some decent equipment. I know we've got a sound card, but I'd have to ask him what kind. We have a good-ish microphone with the little circular screen to catch the sibilants and prevent the p's from popping, and it all goes through a little digital sound board. I'm in the process of learning how to use it all.

I listened to Song of the Treadmill a few weeks ago, and thought that sounded great. I really like your reading voice - you're expressive in a way that I'm trying to be, and you get the right tone in the character's voices. I could always tell Sam from Dean. The recording quality sounded pretty good to me, too. What are you using?

I've noticed that the people who record on a Mac seem to have better quality recordings ... dang it, lol. I'm on a PC, with just a $20 microphone and a gizmo called an iMic which is a sort of sound card in itself, I guess. It plugs into the microphone and the main reason I use it is to boost the sound level of the recording. I have this electronic hum that I can't seem to get rid of that really bothers me. I also seem to have problems with some of my enunciation - especially the "f's". I'll have to experiment with what I can do to rid myself of that.

Thanks for your help!
